The Australian Government's opposition to North Korea's nucelar and missile programs have forced an international soccer tournament in Shepparton to be moved overseas.

Shepparton has been stripped of an international soccer tournament because of political issues.

The Federal Government has confirmed it will not be issuing visas to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea under-19 team, who were set to play in Shepparton next month.

The North Korean team has been grouped with Australia, Hong Kong and Northern Mariana Islands in the Asian Football Confederation qualifiers.

In what will be a major economic blow to the Shepparton region, the newly-refurbished McEwen Reserve was going to host the qualifiers for the under-19 Asian Cup from November 4-8.

The tournament will be moved overseas to a neutral venue.
