Brayden Carey earned the title of best batting performance during Murray Valley Cricket Association Premier Division’s round one action.

The Waaia first-drop smashed an unbeaten 124 to help his side record a strong total of 7-222 from its 45 overs against Katamatite.

Tom Pendlebury was the best bowler for the Tigers with 2-31, while Andrew Erickson (2-50) also snared two wickets.

Erickson backed up his bowling performance with 64 at the top of Katamatite’s order, but no teammate could manage more than 15 runs, and the side could only manage 9-134.

Jordan Cleeland (3-30) and Sebastian Moore (2-23) were the best bowlers for the victors.

●Reigning champion Nathalia stamped its authority on its clash with Finley, striking 4-215 before bowling the opposition out for just 84.

Ash Quinn (76 not out) and Luke Carter (59) made sure Nathalia’s total had plenty of substance, while Tom Nihill (4-6 from four overs) had a remarkable spell to clean up Finley’s tail.

Jesse Barker (2-46) and Daniel McHugh (36) were Finley’s best bowling and batting performers, respectively.

●In other results, Deniliquin Rhinos comfortably defeated Cobram-Yarroweyah United, while Barooga also handed Cobram a loss in the season-opener, despite Adam Deccico’s unbeaten knock of 64.
