Eva James will play Melanie.

A unique program of performances will highlight mental health and reduce stigmas this evening when the Shepparton Theatre Arts Group takes to the stage.

Organised for the 10th consecutive year, the performance will include 10 plays, directed by 10 different people and this year, for the first time, by 10 playwrights.

Wellways youth residential program co-ordinator and 10inTen producer Gemma Marchant said each play focused on promotion of mental health within the community.

‘‘Storytelling to me is performance and art and being heavily involved in STAG I thought, well they should go hand-in-hand,’’ she said.

Ms Marchant said some of the performances would be quite light-hearted, while others would take more serious topics.

‘‘Some are very funny, so it’s a real mix for the audience to see,’’ she said.

Actor Wendy Platt said she would star in Dearly Departed by Cindy Abbey, which was about two sisters who have opposing views on how their late father’s eulogy should be written.

‘‘It’s light-hearted, but heavy at the same time,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s a very well-written play and its a lot of fun to do.’’

10inTen is at Bakehouse Black Box Theatre, 17 Wheeler St, Shepparton, today at 7.30pm, tomorrow at 2pm and 7.30pm and Sunday at 2pm.

Tickets are $15 and are available at the door or through Eventbrite at goo.gl/XAMCDT
