RDA teams from across Victoria prepare for the Northern Region Games Day.

The fancy dress section was again a popular part of the day.

Shepparton Riding for Disabled members enjoyed hopping on a horse for the group’s annual Northern Region Games Day.

RDA Victoria enables people with disabilities to experience enjoyment and gain and a sense of achievement through equestrian activities.

This was the fourth year Shepparton RDA hosted the Northern Region Games Day at the William Orr Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE campus.

RDA teams from Bendigo, Cobram, Deniliquin, Echuca, Myrtleford and Shepparton took part in a range of team events, including bending, flag and drum, mug shuffle and ball and cone relays.

Events included an activity course and fancy dress competition.

Shepparton RDA’s Cathy Hamilton said the Myrtleford team was the overall winner on the day, while the Bendigo team won best-presented centre award.

‘‘All competitors received sashes and trophies which were enthusiastically accepted,’’ she said.

‘‘The fancy dress competition saw a number of riders and horses presented in colourful costumes.’’

The event was organised by Northern Region co-ordinator Carol Doherty from Cobram RDA, with Anne Prime from Bendigo RDA acting as master of ceremonies.

‘‘We would like to thank everyone involved including Greater Shepparton City Council and Tallygaroopna Lions Club for supplying the barbecue on which breakfast and lunch were prepared,’’ Mrs Hamilton said.

‘‘RDA is extremely grateful for the generous patronage of the Tan Hock Chong family, which sponsor all regional RDA games days across the state.

‘‘Representatives of the family, John and Denise Ford, attended the event, judged the fancy dress competition and awarded trophies to competitors.’’
