Ball-goers had the time of their lives.

Several children enjoyed the night's festivities.

Dorothy Hoare had attended the Dookie Ball for many years.

The ball's winning couple Janna and Tex from Bega, NSW.

The Dookie Memorial Hall was transformed into a glamorous ballroom recently when 120 people gathered for the Dookie Old Time Ball.

Lifestyle Dookie ball sub-committee member Lisa Comensoli said dresses sparkled and shiny black shoes led the way around the wooden floor.

‘‘With a touch of nostalgia, the lights went out and a 1900s ... old-time dance movie graced the big screen to begin the evening,’’ she said.

With dancers travelling from across the country, Ms Comensoli said the winning couple came from Bega in NSW, while the winning beau Ken Bates travelled from Castlemaine and star Jenny Turner from nearby Eldorado.

‘‘Dancers travelled from everywhere ... supporting this very special event,’’ she said.

Ms Comensoli said a horse and carriage clip-clopping through the streets of Dookie added to the atmosphere.

‘‘Stunning ladies and dapper gents ... had transformed themselves into the beauty of yesteryear, with full lace gowns, wigs full of locks, black top hats, bow ties and suits,’’ she said.

The adults were not the only ones to join in the fun with more than 20 children taking part in their very-own disco, featuring the ever-popular ‘Chicken Dance’.

‘‘Supper was a delectable feast and a colourful display of sweet delights ... and MC John Clurey was very entertaining as the words rolled from his tongue,’’ Ms Comensoli said.

‘‘If you closed your eyes, you could very well find yourself in a Henry James film.’’

Ms Comensoli said preparations started in February when Lifestyle Dookie secretary Janet Batten secured grant funding from the Greater Shepparton City Council.

‘‘Thank you to everyone who shared the magic with us,’’ she said.
