Entries are being taken for the annual Mental Health Week art display.
Artworks will be exhibited in the Goulburn Valley Health dining room corridor next month.
Run by the GV Health Mental Health Consumer and Carer Advisory Council, the exhibition is open to anyone interested.
Advisory council carer consultant Julie McNamara encouraged people to enter a painting and they will go in a draw to win a major first prize, followed by second, third and fourth prizes.
‘‘This is an opportunity for budding artists to display their work to the public and brighten the day of those visiting the hospital,’’ Ms McNamara said.
‘‘Come and have a look on October 9 and 10 and talk to us.’’
Ms McNamara said there would be several people providing guests with information about mental health.
‘‘We give out a lot of information like how to access services and those sorts of things,’’ she said.
After running for the past few years, Ms McNamara said they would like to build on the number of entries as well as try to alleviate the stigma surrounding mental health.
‘‘We need to talk about it,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s a common thing and we’re hoping this will create an environment for people to talk about mental health matters.’’
She said guests would also get the opportunity to vote on their favourite artworks.
All entries for the exhibition must be completed and handed in by Wednesday.
‘‘All entries must be registered,’’ she said.
‘‘They can pick up an entry form and drop their artwork off at GV Health’s mental health service in Monash St, Shepparton.’’
The exhibition coincides with Mental Health Week, which takes place from Sunday, October 8, to Saturday, October 14.
