Shepparton racer Garry Jacobson will jump behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar this weekend for the Enduro Cup.
Jacobson, who will be co-driving with Jacob Bright, will test himself in Melbourne’s Sandown 500 event, before racing at Bathurst and on the Gold Coast later this year.
The former Goulburn Valley Grammar School student sits fifth on the Super2 Series leader board and the 25-year-old helped his chances of climbing a rung on the ladder yesterday.
Jacobson opened yesterday’s Super2 Series practice session at Sandown 500, looking ominous in his Prodrive Racing Australia Falcon.
He went to the top of the timesheets with a one minute and 10.02 second lap in the morning session, finishing just 0.2136 seconds ahead of Jack Perkins.
Jacobson will jump behind the wheel of his own Falcon today and tomorrow for two races, before the attention turns to race 19 of the V8 Supercars Championship.
The first race starts today on Fox Sports at 3.15pm, then at 10.55am tomorrow, before backing up to race at 1.15pm.
Last month, Jacobson was recognised for a stellar 2016 after winning the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club Competitor of the Year.
The driver has been a part of the racing club since 2009 and now has his name etched alongside all-time greats Greg Murphy and Craig Lowndes.
On the track, Jacobson has had a mixed year with a number of faults, tyre failures and engine blowouts, but is starting to find form again.
He has finished first once this season and at his most recent meet at Sydney’s SuperSprint he had two thirds and two fifth placings from four races.
