Police pronounced the sole occupant of the vehicle deceased upon arrival.

A Corop man, 21, died in a single-vehicle collision near Rushworth yesterday morning.

Kyabram police Sergeant Grant Jones said the probationary driver was travelling north on Nagambie-Rushworth Rd about 7am when he lost control and collided into a small tree.

Sgt Jones said Ambulance Victoria and police found the man dead upon arriving at the scene shortly after the collision.

Rushworth SES were also on the scene and helped tow truck drivers retrieve the vehicle, which had been travelling on a 100km/h stretch of road.

A wheel from the maroon Holden Commodore was located 42m away from the vehicle.

Sgt Jones said while speed might have been a contributing factor to the collision, police would be investigating other factors including fatigue and whether there was any wildlife on the road.

Sgt Jones urged drivers to be mindful of their speed while driving, monitor fatigue and pay attention to the roads and surroundings.

‘‘This is the second fatal in this area over the last couple of days,’’ he said.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800000333 or make a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
