People can connect with their community and local environment at a community day to be held at Shepparton's Boulevard Bush Reserve on Sunday.

People wanting to connect with nature are invited to attend a community day at Boulevard Bush Reserve on Sunday.

RiverConnect project officer Melinda Weston said the event was in partnership with Shepparton Mooroopna Urban Landcare Group.

‘‘In the past we’ve done flora walks through the reserve and we thought we would expand it this year,’’ she said.

‘‘We’ll have a flora walk, share information about different animals in the area, we’ll have a treasure hunt and we’ll do a little clean-up and weed identification.’’

Ms Weston said the community day was about connecting the community with the local environment and educating people on the reserves and natural features in the Greater Shepparton area.

‘‘The Boulevard Bush Reserve has quite a lot of history,’’ she said.

‘‘There’s lots of native vegetation and it’s home to a whole range of different animals.’’

Ms Weston said there were also additional health and wellbeing benefits from being outdoors in a natural environment.

People attending should wear sturdy, enclosed shoes and bring along sun protection and a drink bottle.

Boulevard Bush Reserve community day is on Sunday at Boulevard Bush Reserve, corner of Rudd Rd and The Boulevard, just before Shepparton cemetery.

The day starts at 10am, finishing at noon. Morning tea is included.

People are encouraged to register by phoning Greater Shepparton City Council on 58329700 or emailing RiverConnect at [email protected]
