Police believe a house fire at Shepparton East on Thursday night was deliberately lit.
A CFA spokesperson said the fire at a School Rd property was called in to emergency services at about 8.40pm.
Six fire trucks attended the scene and managed to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Glenn Parmansche said police were called to attend.
Police inquiries found the house to be vacant with no tenants.
Det Snr Const Parmansche said it was believed the fire was deliberately lit and forensic chemists had been called to investigate further.
Police continued to monitored the house yesterday until the chemists arrived at about 2.35pm.
