An old family business was close to going up in flames yesterday after a clean-up led to an Orrvale street being filled with smoke.
Firefighters contained the small fire at Orrvale Rd just after noon, after a backyard burn spread dangerously close to a property.
Shepparton station officer Mark Whitehead said the family had been burning timber and other materials at the back of the old business, but heavy winds spread the fire. ‘‘They were concerned it was going to get in and they didn’t have enough hoses on hand to extinguish the fire basically, so we’ve gone around there to support them,’’ Mr Whitehead said.
Four vehicles attended and placed a line around the fire and dampened hotspots. No-one was hurt and no property was damaged.
