It was a night that will go down in Shepparton’s history.

The inaugural Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame function saw more than 300 people pack into Eastbank on Friday night.

Twenty-seven of the region’s greatest ever sportspeople were recognised and celebrated for their outstanding careers and contributions in putting Shepparton on the map.

While there were Olympians and world champions among the first intake, the loudest applause went to legendary lawn bowler Edna Harling.

At 102, Mrs Harling walked on stage without a trouble in the world to a standing ovation which will live long in the memory of everyone who was there.

One of the pioneers of the Hall of Fame, Don Kilgour, hosted the event in a flawless and elegant manner.

There was no-one else who could have come close to delivering the inside knowledge and anecdotes Mr Kilgour came up with.
