A charity golf day gives keen golfers the chance to hit the green for a good cause.
Shepparton Riding for the Disabled and Mooroopna Women’s Golf Club have again teamed up to host a joint charity golf event.
The charity golf day has been running for about 35 years and for Shepparton RDA life member and volunteer Yvonne Donnan it has changed significantly since they first teed off.
‘‘They used to start the day at 7am,’’ she said.
‘‘The RDA ladies catered for morning tea, lunch and baked for the cake stall.
‘‘Now the Golf Club has a restaurant and the event is a breeze to host.’’
Shepparton RDA is a not-for-profit volunteer based group providing horse riding and related activities for children and adults with disabilities.
All funds raised from the day go towards Shepparton RDA.
Mooroopna Women’s Golf Club president Mary Williams said the event was open to anyone to attend, but they needed to have a handicap.
‘‘We love having the event,’’ she said. ‘‘It should be a great day, hopefully we’ll have some nice weather.’’
The 18-hole stableford will begin with a shotgun start and the $20 the entry fee covering lunch and divisions on the day nearest the pins on seventh and 10th.
Shepparton RDA volunteers will hold a produce and craft stall from noon.
Shepparton RDA secretary Cathy Hamilton said the group was thankful to the Mooroopna Women’s Golf Club and the Goulburn Valley for ongoing support.
Shepparton RDA operates every Tuesday during the school term at Wanganui Rd, Shepparton.
Volunteers are always needed, if you are interested in volunteering please phone Cathy Hamilton on 58265177.
The charity golf day will be held on Thursday, August 17, at 9.30am at the Mooroopna Golf Club, 2 Fairway Dr, Mooroopna.
It cost $20 to take part in the charity golf day and entries close Tuesday, August 15.
