Don’t wait until the last minute — that’s the message from Australia Post ahead of what’s expected to be one of the busiest Christmas periods in mailroom history.

Australia Post Shepparton Business Centre business services manager Kate Peterson has been working at Australia Post for more than two decades.
Her role takes care of all outgoing mail; last year was as busy as she’d ever seen, and Ms Peterson is expecting the coming two months to be just as frenetic and busy.
Her advice on sending packages for Christmas or getting gifts delivered online: “get in early”.
“The big push is to get it into the system as quickly as possible to guarantee that delivery time,” she said.
“It’s a huge strain on the teams.”
She said normal periods were nearly as busy as a regular Christmas rush, and the Christmas rush would be another step up again.
Australia Post has employed more Christmas casuals to help move the increased volume of parcels.
Ms Peterson said it had become “so easy to shop online” and after more than 18 months of COVID-19 restrictions it was becoming an ingrained habit.
The last date for sending a package from Victoria to interstate is December 13, while express post needs to be sent by December 20 to arrive in time.
However, packages going to Western Australia need to be sent a few days earlier than that deadline.
