Val Granger was awarded Lions Star Award for her efforts at attending 34 conventions.

Several Numurkah Lions Club members were recognised for their achievements and commitment to the club at its recent changeover dinner.

The highlight of the evening included a presentation of three Lions International Centennial Silver Dollars to the club’s three surviving founding members after its inception in 1969.

Lion Mark Nordbye said Lions Rex Wellington, Alf Seiter and Doug Holmes were the charter members to be recognised.

‘‘Due to ill health, Doug’s award was accepted by his wife Lady Lion Glenice, who was also presented with a bouquet of flowers.’’

Club president Neil Stuart presented the members with the awards, which was followed by a presentation of the Lions Treasurers Award to Lion Noel Murdoch.

‘‘Noel... is stepping down after six years as treasurer (and) has been the club treasurer on six occasions for a total of 16 years and 16 different presidents,’’ Mr Nordbye said.

Mr Stuart presented a Star Lions Award to Val Granger, who has represented the club at 34 international, state and zone conventions.

‘‘She has already booked her accommodation for Barham later in the year.’’

Mr Nordbye said the club was delighted to have inducted four new members, which was done by Past District Governor Peter Poels.

To end the evening, the Lions International exchange student Tessa Janssen, 18, from Son en Breugel in the Netherlands, spoke about her home town and her uncle, who is a Lions member there.

Mr Stuart also detailed activities the club had been involved with during the past year, which totalled more than 12000 hours. ‘‘As a result, the club will be dispersing $12100 to Lions and local projects,’’ he said.

Special guests for the evening included Past District Governor Peter Poels and his wife Margaret, together with zone chairperson Helen Hastie and her husband Ken.
