Four dead foxes carcasses were left to rot on the ground at a popular Shepparton sports facility.
News photographer Ray Sizer spotted the carcases on Tuesday, which had been dumped on the ground at a fence at the Shepparton BMX track at Packham St.
Greater Shepparton City Council was alerted to the carcases, and a council spokesperson said it was an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1970.
‘‘The practice chosen to eradicate foxes must be humane and in accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986,’’ the spokesperson said.
A ranger was sent to collect and safely dispose of the carcases.
Foxes are a declared pest animal in the state and currently the Victorian Government offers eligible hunters a $10 bounty for each fox killed.
