Underagers have one final chance

Murray Bushrangers enter the final development round as a number of underage players have another chance to play TAC Cup football.

Seymour’s Ben Davey has taken charge of the side with the Bushies assistant stepping up due to senior coach Leon Higgins’ commitments to Victoria Country in the under-18 Championships.

In the past two rounds, Davey said there have been some players from the region stand out.

‘‘As far as people in Shepparton are concerned Kyle Clarke (Shepparton United) has been good and we’ve been able to give Ed Adams (Shepparton United) and Ajak Dang (Mooroopna) two games in a row and they’ve had a taste of it and can work on the things they need to improve on and that’s the best thing about this concept,’’ he said.

Dang and Adams will exit the side for this week’s match up against Western Jets as the Bushrangers travel to Williamstown.

With the wind always an issue in the beachside suburb, Davey is hopeful his side can quickly adapt to the conditions.

Sitting third and entering the match following a 16-point win against Eastern Ranges, the team focused on the goals for the rest of the season.

‘‘We had a big talk, we had a full day training session (on Thursday) and a big talk that we’ve passed the central part of the season with the national carnival done,’’ Davey said.

‘‘It’s the last week of Futures round so we remembered our great start to the season and had a think about why we started so well.

‘‘The challenge with the bottom age players is to stand up and we said to them we’ve got a couple of long term injuries so to bottom age players if you play well you stay in the team.’’

Next week, Murray regains its Vic Country players with the performance of Ben Paton (Albury) seeing him named in the under-18s All Australian side.

●Plenty of local talents will be in action in Queensland on Monday, as the AFL Women’s under-18s carnival continues.

Mooroopna’s Millie Brown and Shepparton Notre’s Grace Egan and Sophie Damon are among those flying north today in preparation for the round two match against Queensland.
