THRIVE community group

March 21, 2017

The first meeting of the THRIVE Community Reference Group will take place on Thursday 23rd March 2017 in Wangaratta. We hope you can join us! On Friday 4th November 2016 Kildonan UnitingCare hosted "THRIVE: Connecting ATSI & CALD LGBTI Communities" forum and launched the THRIVE Community Reference Group.

THRIVE is an alliance of health and social services operating in the Hume region situated North East Victoria (Greater City of Shepparton, Shires of Moira, Murrindindi, Strathbogie, Mansfield, Benalla, Wangaratta, Towong, Alpine, Indigo, Wodonga). The member agencies include local councils, community services, health services, aged care services, mental health services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, disability services, education, ethnic councils, spiritual and interfaith groups.

THRIVE member agencies are committed to respectful and meaningful engagement of the LGBTI* community (with a particular focus on ATSI* & CALD* individuals/communities) to inform high quality appropriate services in the region. Although some member agencies have existing Community Advisory Groups, these do not always represent the needs and interests of the broader (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI communities. In order to provide an effective mechanism for bringing the voices of the (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI communities in the Hume region to health and social services providers in the area, the THRIVE Community Reference Group has been established. THRIVE intends that the Community Reference Group has effective links and communication with existing Community Advisory Groups across the Hume region as well as providing a mechanism for communicating with and responding to (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI people and (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI communities based in the Hume region.

Membership of this Reference Group is a great opportunity to:
• Provide THRIVE members agencies with advice on priority action ideas for (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI people and their carers in the delivery of services.
• Provide input and direction in relation to the integration of (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI people, their carers, and community views and experiences into all levels of health and social services operations, planning and policy development.
• Assist THRIVE member agencies in appropriate communications with the (ATSI & CALD) LGBTI communities in the Hume region.

*LGBTI: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex
*ATSI: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
*CALD: Culturally And Linguistically Diverse
