The owner of the car was driving to work at about 6.45 am when he noticed smoke coming out from under his dash.
Mooroopna CFA captain Ray Stockwell said the driver parked the car in a car park near a Mooroopna hardware store and the engine proceeded to go up in flames.
Shepparton and Mooroopna CFA attended the blaze and brought it under control quickly.
Later in the morning a Mooroopna CFA volunteer was walking past the vehicle and noticed smoke coming from the engine area and called the CFA back to cool the vehicle down.
