Score Bleumink good one

December 02, 2016

Australian Pro-Am series order of merit leader Damian Jordan shot a 69 in yesterday's first round of the Numurkah-Mooroopna Pro-Am.

Luke Bleumink once paid the bills as a labourer.

So it comes as little surprise the Victorian laid a great foundation in his bid to win the $25000 Numurkah-Mooroopna Pro-Am yesterday.

Bleumink, 31, goes into today’s second round at Mooroopna with a one-shot advantage after firing a sizzling 67 at Numurkah yesterday.

His iron play was supreme and Bleumink also drained a number of crucial putts once on the dancefloor.

Bleumink proved the standout performer of the morning players, who hit the course from 7.30am.

Five-under par looked mighty good in the clubhouse as the mercury climbed in the afternoon session.

New South Welshman Josh Cabban, ranked 1873 in the world, rode the crest of the wave to fire an impressive 68.

Cabban, who hails from Yellow Rock in the Blue Mountains, secured his biggest tournament win in last year’s Papua New Guinea Open.

Local product Rodney Booth used his intimate knowledge of the Numurkah layout to great effect.

Booth, the club-based professional at Tocumwal, honed his game at yesterday’s host venue and was delighted with his three-under par 69.

That showing leaves him in a tie for third alongside Alex Edge (NSW) and the Queenslander Damien Jordan.

Jordan, the leader of the Australian Pro-Am series order of merit and one of the pre-tournament fancies, put himself in the frame to add a great chunk of cash to his already impressive tally.

In contrast, nearest order of merit challenger Andrew Martin struggled, signing for a three-over par 75.

Of the 53 professionals who teed it up yesterday, just 12 broke par.

Mooroopna club professional Ashley Blake impressed with an even-par 72 and Numurkah’s Anthony Sanders carded a 75.

Shepparton’s Mitch McComas (79) and Darren Rodgers (81) are back in the pack.

Play at Mooroopna begins today from 12.30pm.
