The RACV has warned motorists that November to January is a risky time for windscreen damage, with almost a third of windscreen claims lodged during this period.
RACV’s general manager of motor insurance, Mark Geraghty, said 58 per cent of windscreen insurance claims in the 2015-16 financial year involved rocks, many of them being thrown up by trucks.
‘‘The cost of windscreen replacement continued to rise and averaged $406 last financial year. The number of windscreen claims also increased and accounted for 11 per cent of all comprehensive incidents for cars,’’ he said.
‘‘RACV Insurance paid more than $4.8million for windscreen damage involving 11839 claims last financial year.’’
Greater Shepparton came in at number 13 on the top 20 local government areas for RACV windscreen claims in the 2015-16 financial year, with 257 claims.
This was up on the 234 claims lodged the previous financial year.
