Detectives are investigating a ute theft where the vehicle was taken on a joy ride through Shepparton south.

Shepparton police Crime Investigation Unit Detective Acting Sergeant Gary Dean said the ute was taken from out front of the Richard Renato Service on Lockwood Rd, Shepparton, about 1pm yesterday.

The ute was a Richard Renato Service vehicle and had the company’s logo and writing on the side of it.

Det Sgt Dean said after it was stolen the unknown offender drove it erratically along St Georges and Sunbury Rds and Poplar Ave.

The ute was then dumped off Paterson Rd in Shepparton.

Dangerous driver

Police stopped a Cobram man, 36, who was driving dangerously in Cobram on Friday at 9pm.

‘‘We got information from the public about his dangerous driving and as a result we were able to intercept him,’’ Cobram police Senior Constable Andrew Costello said.

Police said the man recorded a preliminary blood alcohol reading of .143.

‘‘Thanks to the tip off we managed to ensure safety of the man and other road users in the vicinity,’’ Sen Const Costello said.
