Murray Bushrangers’ Esava Ratugolea celebrated being drafted to Geelong with family and friends in Cobram last night.
Watching on television, the 195cm power forward’s name was called at pick number 43 and he said he was overwhelmed to be named on an AFL list.
‘‘I’m feeling so emotional, I’m just over the moon. I can’t believe it,’’ Ratugolea said minutes after he learned he had become a Cat.
‘‘It was actually a surprise. I was waiting for a couple of picks later on for my name to be called.’’
Close to his extended family, Ratugolea,18, said his grandmother Kiti and mum Kelly were ecstatic with the announcement.
‘‘My family is over the moon, there is a lot of crying. They’re so happy,’’ he said.
‘‘I’m very grateful for this opportunity. Thank God it’s in Victoria. I can’t believe it.’’
Ratugolea will now join his new Geelong teammates when he heads to the club for the first time tomorrow afternoon.
The Victoria Country representative was in awe of who he will now train with.
‘‘I can’t wait to meet Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood, all of them really,’’ he said.
‘‘I just can’t believe it, I can’t wait to get out there.’’
