Talented team comes up trumps

Three amigos: Glenn Thatcher, Dave Hardie and Denis Smyth combined to win the GV State Triples at Stanhope recently.

Three Amigos was a popular movie of the 1980s.

Well the Goulburn Valley has uncovered its version of the talented trio.

Shepparton Park bowlers Denis Smyth, Glenn Thatcher and Dave Hardie came up trumps at the recent Goulburn Valley men’s state triples at Stanhope.

Played across consecutive Sundays, the triples attracted 12 teams representing Shepparton Park, Shepparton RSL, East Shepparton, Shepparton Golf and Shepparton RSL.

Smyth and Hardie were joined by Peter ‘‘Boxer’’ Brodie on the first Sunday and the team was able to progress from section one.

But Brodie was unavailable for day two as it coincided with the birthday of his grandson Sam.

Thatcher filled his absence with aplomb as the team progressed through to the final against Golf trio Col Power, John Dagger and Wayne Dagger.

The Park trio controlled proceedings from the get-go and prevailed 19-6, earning a spot in the next stage of the tournament in February next year.

‘‘The rain and the wind made life difficult for all the teams, but we braved the elements and were able to come away with the win,’’ Hardie said.
