The Shepparton Central Rotary Club handed a $10000 cheque to Goulburn Valley Hospice Care this week following a successful 16th annual Fruit Loop Ride this month.

Ride committee chairman David Abbey said the event helped provide a boost for community groups.

‘‘It was a very positive event and all the money raised goes to the benefit of the charities that we determine,’’ Mr Abbey said.

Overall, the ride raised about $15000, which was was distributed between the Shepparton Central Rotary Club, Shepparton South Rotary Club and GV Hospice Care.

This was the first year the ride supported the hospice group.

GV Hospice Care chief executive Carmel Smith gratefully accepted the cheque.

‘‘We use this money to provide our people with equipment, medications and anything they need to care for someone at home,’’ Ms Smith said.

The Fruit Loop Ride has raised about $300000 during 16 years. Mr Abbey said he was looking forward to building the ride’s numbers in years to come.
