Shepparton detectives are investigating a suspicious house fire at Maude St.

Shepparton police Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Peter Aitken said the fire ignited at the Shepparton home behind the Parklake about 8pm on Wednesday.

There was no-one in the house during the fire and no-one was injured while four Country Fire Authority trucks worked to extinguish the blaze.

Det Sen Const Aitken said the fire caused major damage to the back of the house and minor damage to its front.

Det Sen Const Aitken said police from the Arson and Explosives Squad arrived in Shepparton yesterday morning to investigate the scene.

He said police spoke to witnesses at the fire, but were still appealing for people to come forward with information.
