Tatura Hospital and Parkvilla Aged Care will this weekend host one of the town’s major events and residents are encouraged to take part.
Co-ordinated by staff members Louisa Niglia and Leanna Hookes-Wilson, the Tatura Fun Run is in its sixth year and participants can register for the 5.5km family event and 5.5km and 10km events.
Entry prices range from $5 to $15 and participants are asked to gather for registration at the main entrance between 8.30am and 9am.
‘‘It promotes a healthy lifestyle while raising funds for the hospital,’’ Tatura Hospital manager Jayne French said.
Ms French said this year’s funds would go towards the hospital’s aim for the next 12 months — to purchase a special type of bed which offers a holistic approach to the patient.
‘‘The beds cost approximately $5000 so any funds raised are much appreciated,’’ she said.
‘‘The beds have features to assist with fall reduction, pressure injury risk reduction and the reduction of manual handling.’’
Ms Niglia said those who wished to donate but not take part in the fun run were more than welcome to do so and reiterated that all the money raised would stay in Tatura.
She and Ms Hookes-Wilson worked in conjunction with the Tatura Hospital and Parkvilla Aged Care community reference committee and were assisted by volunteers who will be acknowledged at the fun run. ‘‘The signage is out in the community to let people know about the event,’’ Ms Niglia said.
A barbecue will also be available for a gold coin donation.
