Revved up for raffle

November 23, 2016

Graeme Balfour at the Shepparton Motor Museum shows off the 1994 Pontiac Firebird.

This classic American muscle car could be yours for just $10.

Shepparton Motor Museum is selling raffle tickets and the winner will take home this 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula V8.

Dom Mellino from the motor museum said the car was a classic and he doubted there would be many in Australia.

‘‘Of this model we have only tracked down two, so it is something different,’’ Mr Mellino said.

The car was bought by the museum at an auction in Perth for a cheap price, but in poor condition.

Shepparton’s motoring community donated their time and parts to get the car looking and driving like new.

‘‘It needed a bit of love. It drives really well, it’s got a really sweet V8 in it,’’ Mr Mellino said.

Although the car is a rarity in Australia, the style will be recognisable to anyone who watched TV in the ’80s, as it is the same make as the crime-fighting KITT from Knight Rider.

The car is now valued at about $30000 and the raffle will go towards maintaining the Shepparton Motor Museum.

Curator of the Shepparton Motor Museum Graeme Balfour said the car’s steering had been converted to Australia’s conditions and was perfectly suited to Australian roads.

To see the car or buy a $10 raffle ticket, go to Shepparton Motor Museum.

The raffle will be drawn on Friday, June 23, 2017.
