Rochester residents are fed up with faulty railway boom gates.

Rochester residents are fed up with faulty railway boom gates in Elizabeth St and on the Northern Hwy that have randomly come down into position in the past two weeks.

Rochester police have been called out to three incidents to direct traffic including one situation where both boom gates stayed in down position for two hours.

Police said they understood the frustration of residents as the two streets are the main link between east and west of town but there was nothing they could do until V/Line technicians corrected it.

Man charged with assault

A Rochester man, 44, has been charged with assault, weapon and threatening offences and bailed to appear in the Echuca Magistrates’ Court in January.

The man was interviewed in regards to incidents that happened in licenced premises in the Rochester township on Saturday, October 1 and during the week that followed.

Police have been investigating independent witness statements about the incidents.
